The unrated Jason Tapia of Antipolo National High School was undefated in 6 rounds of play in the first One Meralco Jr Chess Master Tournament held at Meralco's famous Lopez Bldg in Pasig City.

Tapia won over 5 rated players with the highest being Viginie Ruaya of Taytay National HS at 1766.

He started at rank 88 among 94 participants from various public schools and finished at #1.

Tapia at the top!

The feat entitled him, together with the 9 other top fnishers to membership in the Meralco Chess Club. The top 10 will undergo a series of workshop under Meralco Chess Club VP for Training Leo Carlos, a FIDE Master and Head Coach of the University of the Philippines.

He will also get a sponsorship to a kiddy tournament, either the Alphaland Kiddies or 1st Magnolia Kiddies this May. And he is already seeded in the Manuel M. Lopez Cup in honor of Meralco Chairman's birthday this May.
