This event, in memory of our late father, was co-sponsored by my sister Guia Sol Cruz-Savellano.
The participants are all junior champions of Meralco Chess Club and these junior champions are promising high school chess players from various public schools which I either met in tournaments or was recommended by NM Carag, who like my late Dad has a soft spot for those who have less in life.
The champions are Prince Sanguan of Mataas na Paaralang Neptali Gonzales, Jefferson Saltorio of Eulogio Rodriguez Vocational High School, Ian Forcado of Sta Rosa science and Technology High School. Also invited but could not play are Justin Corpin of Alejandro Roces Science and Technology HS, and Eric Margarito of Nayong Silangan HS.
I remember Dad during his cycling days. Not only does he own a racer bike which was more expensive than our family car but his cycling buddies are mostly the dyaristas whom he always treat to a merienda.
With this tournament, we are perpetuating Dad's concern for the less fortunate and in hindsight, dad has planted the seed and thought us to be caring as well. Thank you Daddy. We love you and we are proud of you!

Also participating are Michael Alcantara and Mark Villarante of Ramon Magsaysay HS, co-champions in the Andres Bonifacio Cup last year.
The top 3 placers gets medals, chess sets and sponsorship to the National Open.
