The position after the third moves first appeared in Paulsen vs Mason in 1892. But it started with a different move order, with 1.c3 which is known in opening theory as the Saragossa Opening.

James Mason has authored the famous books The Principles of Chess and The Art of Defense.

1892. In Phl history, this is the year that Gat Andres Bonifacio establishes the Katipunan. So, while Paulsen and Mason are fighting for the win, our ancestors are fighting for our independence from the Spanish rule.
