MANILA, Philippines - PLDT bested Meralco and Smart to capture the overall championship in the first MVP Olympics at the Meralco Sports Complex recently.

The three-day event brought together employees and executives of companies under the Manuel V. Pangilinan group where over 2,000 vied for 36 medals in various sports and other athletic activities.

“Mr. Pangilinan has always been actively involved in promoting the value of sports and its contribution to nation-building. Engaging the employees of the companies where he is involved is a natural progression of that advocacy,” said Patrick Gregorio, project director of the MVP Olympics, and head of sports marketing at Smart Communications, Inc.

The MVP Olympics featured basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, track and field, billiards, chess, among others. It also held a talent competition, singing contest, ballroom dancing, a Mardi Gras-inspired fun run, and relay games.

Employees of Smart, PLDT, e-PLDT, Metro Pacific Investments Corp., Meralco, Maynilad Water Services, Inc., TV5, Mediaquest, Philex Mining Corp., Makati Medical Center, Cardinal Santos Medical Center, Davao Doctors Hospital, Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., and Manila North Harbour Port, Inc. joined the MVP Olympics.

The MVP Olympics was supported by Burger King and Outback Steakhouse.
