La Salle top guns Nigel Galan and Gio Mejia topped the High School and Grade School Group of the 1st MERALCO Jrs Rapid Chess Championship, respectively. Both scored a perfect 6 wins in games and took home the gold medal and the top prize of P1,500 each.
La Salle and FEU won the Best Teams in the Grade School and High School Group, respectively. This was determined by the cumulative scores of its top 3 players.
The Manuel M. Lopez Gold Medal for the Best Coaches were won by NM Erwin Carag of La Salle in the Grade School Group while NM Alex Milagrosa of FEU in the High School. Actually, FEU and UE/Coach Henry Mariano were tied for the Best Team at 14 points but after the tie-breaks were applied, Chief Arbiter/NM Elias Lao declared FEU and NM Milagrosa the winners.
Rhal Mendoza Sol Cruz Jr., Mandaluyong City's NCR Finalist in the Elementary Division, scored 3.5 points while Paul Casiano, Bulacan's CLARAA Finalist in the High School Division, finished with 4 points to emerged as the Best Grade School and High School Player of MERALCO, respectively.

Congratulations on the well attended tournament!
May I ask for the GS category if CDBS/Don Bosco (10.5pts for top 3
players) wound up 3rd behind LSGH and LICS, just need to confirm to the parents.
Also, Jasper Marce (4pts) is from Malitlit Elem School and may have topped the public school sector. But not sure this Friday for the NM Cabellon series, maybe he can have a slot in future workshops, I hope.
