On Johnson's 2... e6:
The main line is 2... d5, with 15,936 games in the chessgames.com db. Johnson's move is very rare, with only 13 games.

I am confused with this strategy; you play the Caro Kann whose goal is to develop the Q bishop, but you block its path with e6.

CG's Opening Explorer classifies the c6-e6 moves under the French Defence and has been played recently by Kamber Sela in the European Cup 2009.

However, after 3.c4 d5 4.exd5 cxd5, the opening took on the form of the Caro Kann Panov-Botvinnik Attack. This line was often played by Nimzovich, but was popularized by World Champion Botvinnik.

Up to Johnson's 6... Be7 is not just a GM move but a move by a World Champion Karpov.

FM Leo's 7.c5 is seldom played, with only 77 games in cg. The main line is 7.cxd5 as played by Karpov.
