On the occassion of MERALCO's 102nd Foundation Day, the MERALCO Chess Club woke up from a very long slumber and opened with a simul match by National Master Gerardo CABELLON of Manila Sector.Joseph Ganapin, a former member of the MERALCO Chess Team, was the lone winner. But 2 other veterans forced NM Cabellon to a draw; Mang Abe BELEN and Ka Romy AGUILAR of Call Center.
The event was organized by Ruben Lagrimas, Darryl Mata, and Rolly Sol Cruz with the backing of MERALCO Day Chairman Ruben Benosa.

The little boy in yellow shirt is Paulo Bersamina.
Pau is now a FIDE Master and a National Junior Champion.
In January 2012, it was FM Pau Bersamina's turn to give a simul with the Meralco junior players.
And in Feb 2012, FM Pau Bersamina, 14 years old, played the entire Meralco Chess Team in a simul.
