An all - Indian battle decided the Scottish Championships International Open at the Edinburgh City Chambers. Three players shared the lead going into the final game on 6.5/8. The Indian GMs S A Prasad and MC Panchanathan were paired together with the former prevailing and winning the tournament by half a point. England's Mark Hebden was held to a draw by the Icelander Gudmundur Kjartansson who made a well-deserved GM result.
There was some drama in the battle for the Scottish Championship. Iain Gourlay won the title for the first time as GM Jon Shaw was outplayed by GM Jan Markos of Slovakia and GM Keti Arakhamia-Grant lost on time in a won position against IM Andrew Greet with one move to make. Gourlay defeated Mrs Arakhamia-Grant's husband Jonathan Grant.
