GM Wesley So strikes again! GM Wesley has turned this National Championship into his personal arena - winning the title for the 5th consecutive time. And this year's edition is said to be the toughest of them all as all our foreign-based GMs: Barcenilla, Sanchez and Salvador; came home to test the "new kid in town".
And the changing of the guards has materialized with IM Barbosa and Bitoon sharing the 2nd and 3rd places.
GM Laylo's 4th place finish can also be considred as part of the changing, though Darwin's Theory has already proven that fact not once, and the most recent of which is the topping of the Vietnam Zonal a few years back.
The 5th placer is an interesting figure, GM Eugene Torre - Asia's first GM. The man many quarters have referred to as the old man of chess has again proven that the mind can still do wonderful things and age does not matter. He is actually tied with Darwin with identical 5.5 points. Thus, we can state this as: Darwin's Theory and Eugene's Experience.
GM Joey Antonio and GM Joseph Sanchez scored 5 points a piece for a tie at 6th-7th place.
There goes the our 2011 PHL Team to the SEA Games this November. I hope so.
