Ateneo, La Salle resume rivalry in kiddie chess

MANILA, Sept. 4 –Ateneo De Manila University and De La Salle University resume their friendly and fierce rivalry in chess when the 1st Meralco Management Leadership Development Center (MMLDC) for kiddies 14- and- under chess championships gets underway on Sunday at 8 a.m. at the MMLDC Km 27 Sumulong Hi-way, Antipolo City (infront of Assumption School, Antipolo campus).
"The chess war between the two schools promise to be exciting and classic as always, as the Blue Eagles of Ateneo send their top players as well the Green Archers of La Salle," said International Master (IM) Marlon Bernardino in his pool report.
Tournament organizer Rolly Sol Cruz, president of the Meralco Chess Club, assures the fans the event is worth watching.
“Ateneo and La Salle are two schools who are known for their intense rivalry. With this tournament, we aim to continue that grand tradition."
“You’ve seen our schools go at it so you know that you could only expect something great and always something really exciting from us," he added.
The Blue Eagles are bannered by Jett and JV Cadawas-Marcos while the Green Archers are composed of Rhal Sol Cruz, Ralp Villaflor and Earl Cabugao.
Not to be outdone are Nico and Quinna Soler, Felipe Magdalaga, Jorie Bonifacio, Jolina Saltorio and Daniel Sanchez of National University, Darryl Samantila and Jean Karen Enriquez of Adamson University, Joshua and Vince Morte of Marist School Marikina; Philip Buhat, Barciso Gravillo, Jiselle Javate, John Bryan Domondon, Alexis dela Cruz, Jan Kenneth Ende, Jonalyn Abajon, Kelly Jay Ompad, Harold Ian Nalla, and Nerissa Ferrer of Ramon Magsaysay Cubao High School, Joshua Nicart, Jayson Tagal, Rickson Pajantoy, Kenneth delos Reyes, Haydielyn Valerio and Kevin Ulanday of San Isidro National High School, Jonathan Serenio, Ma. Lourdes Pajares, Gian Munoz and Francis Villarosa of St John’s Montessori , Gerome Romero, Nostradamus Raagas, Jessica Chua, Maverick Rivera and Louie Jabal of Sumulong Elementary School, among others.
Registration is ongoing and is free to the public.
The event is sponsored by MMLDC Foundation, Inc., through Ms. Agnes Fidelino, Managing Director, as part of their 10th year anniversary celebration and sharing with the community.
