ATENEO TOPS PAYA MIDGET CHESS TOURNEY

ATENEO de Manila University elementary chess team headed by coach NM Roland Joseph Perez scored 18.0 points captured the crown in the 2009 Philippine Athletics Youth Association (PAYA) midget chess team championships yesterday at the La Salle Greenhills (LSGH) campus in San Juan City.
LSGH (16.5 points) and Colegio San Agustin (12.5 points) came in second and third respectively. Other participating school were Southridge, Claret and Xavier.Adjudged individual medallist were Board 1 Giovani Mejia of LSGH (4/4 for Gold Medal), Paul Vincent Wong of CSA (3/3 for Silver Medal) and Jacob de Leon of Southridge (1/5 for Bronze Medal; Board 2 Peter Padre of CSA (3.5/5 for Gold Medal), Luke de Leon of LSGH (2.5/4 for Silver Medal) and Juancho Morales of Southridge (1/5 for Bronze Medal); Board 3 Nathaniel Manahan of Ateneo (5/5 for Gold Medal); Angelo Isaiah Nuestro of LSGH (4/5 for Silver Medal) and KimMig Soo of CSA (3/5 for Bronze Medal); Board 4 Greg Andaman of CSA (3/5 for Gold Medal) and Dante Victorino Jr. of Southridge (1/5 for Silver Medal); Board 5 Jose Marti Caniones of Ateneo (4/4 of Gold Medal), Timothy James dela Cruz of LSGH (3/3 for Silver Medal) and Board 6 Rusty John Macalalad of LSGH (3/3 for Gold Medal) and Stephen Myles Young of Ateneo (3/3 for Gold Medal. International arbiter Gene Poliarco served as the chief arbiter and assisted by Olympian member WNM Daisy Rivera.
