Former UST stand-out NM Efren Bagamasbad held a simultaneous match at the MERALCO Chess Club and scored 7 wins (vs junior players Jolina Saltorio, Jefferson Saltorio, Miguel Vergara, Marvin Andes of STS, Jonathan Santiago of SCADA, Teddy Santiago of Power Accounts, Rolly Sol Cruz of Customer Process, ), 4 draws (vs Darryl Mata of Alabang Sector, Abet Casiano of Baliwag Business Center and junior players Paul Casiano and Jerome Saltorio) and 3 losses (vs Ricky Tan of RAM, Joseph Ganapin of Alabang Sector and junior player Joannah Saltorio of NU). This was the most productive performance of MERALCO Chess Club in a simul so far; 1 W (by Joseph Ganapin) & 2 D (Romy Aguilar and the late abe Belen) with NM Cabellon in 2005, 1 D (by Danny Degollado) with now GM Wesley So in 2006, 2 D (Lilet Bersamina and Darryl Mata) with NM Cabellon in 2006, 1 D (Darryl Mata) with GM Torre in 2007, and 1 W (Joel Bilado) with NM Bernardino in 2008.

NM Efren earned his title in the FEBTC International Open in the 1990's.
