MERALCO JRS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP














MERALCO is hosting a tournament on May 8 at Basement Canteen, Lopez Bldg, MERALCO Center, Ortigas Ave, Pasig City.

The tourney is open to all grade school and high school students of its franchise area.

This is a 1-day rapid (25-25 minutes) individual using the Grand Prix format where the best team (score of its top 3 players) wins the Best Team and Coach Award. Prizes at stake for each category (grade school and high school) are:

High School Category
P1,500 for Champion
P1,000 for 2nd Placer
P 500 for 3rd Placer
P1,000 for Best Team and Coach

Grade School Category
P1,500 for Champion
P1,000 for 2nd Placer
P 500 for 3rd Placer
P1,000 for Best Team and Coach

Registration is free. You must register on-line at this website or at the Meralco page of pinoy chess portal.

Players must bring their school ID. And if you bring your latest validated (paid) MERALCO electric bill, you will be entitled to join the raffle of MERALCO give aways.

The Top 5 placers of each category from any public school are entitled to a free chess workshop with a simul by NM Gerry Cabellon on May 14. This special event is sponsored by the Good Samaritans of MERALCO.

Early registrants are Coach Henry's UE and San Beda (Manila & Taytay), Kots Erwin's La Salle, Diliman Prep School and Ramon Magsaysay, Coach Jojo's NU, GM Jayson's FEU, Ugong's Rizal Hi and Legaspi Elem, and Master Rudy's Arellano plus the participants of the 1st PACE U16 last April 17 who have confirmed.

WORKSHOP by NM CARAG

As summer vacation unfolds, our Club aims to give our junior players more opportunity to improve their games. Thus, the resumption of the workshop series. However, we are shifting to high gear in the sense that instead of a monthly session, we are doing it on a weekly basis. And NM Erwin Carag of La Salle starts the summer workshop with the topic taken from the popular book - Best Lessons of a Chess Coach by Weeramantry and Eusebi.
